Recreational lake (former quarry lake), which is busy with people boating and swimming in the summer, but a haven for migrating/wintering birds in other seasons
Auesee Wesel is a lake that is mainly interesting in the winter to watch migrating waterfowl as well as to take a look at the birding island during breeding season. Rare and not so common ducks can sometimes be observed here, such as Rață cu cap negru, Rață roșie, Eider, Rață catifelată or Rață sunătoare. It's proximity to the Rhine river is a magnet for these migrating birds. There is a bird island, where birds like Stârc cenușiu, Chiră de baltă and Cormoran mare breed and you can watch it from an observation point. Around the lake there are trees and woodlands with the birds, you can expect in such a habitat.
There is a car park right at the lake and you can fully walk around it. The circular walk indicated on the map is 7,5 km long.
