Description
Stârc de cireadă Prundăraș gulerat mic The Marais salants de La Couarde are traditional salt pans located on the Île de Ré. The salt pans are part of a centuries-old tradition of salt production, where seawater is channeled into shallow ponds and allowed to evaporate, leaving behind salt crystals. The area attracts water birds and waders such as Egretă mică, Piciorong, Călifar alb, Fluierar de munte, Fluierar cu picioare verzi, Fluierar cu picioare roșii, Pescăruș cu cap negru and Chiră de baltă.

Access
The Marais de la Couarde is located on the Île de Ré between the villages of La Couarde-sur-Mer and Loix. You can walk or cycle around the area (about 7 km). Part of the route runs over elevated boardwalks. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot. If you don't want to do the entire route: the eastern part of the area holds most birds.
