The Grand Etang de Birieux is located near the village of Birieux in the heart of Dombes.
The Grand Etang de Birieux is a great winter gathering lake for Rață sulițar, Rață cu cap castaniu and Gâscă de vară, but also Rață mică, Egretă mare, Stârc cenușiu, Barză albă, Pescăruș râzător, Rață mare, Vânturel roșu, Șorecar comun, Rață cu ciuf, Rață lingurar, Călifar alb, Corcodel mare, Egretă mică, Piciorong, Rață pestriță and Cormoran mare.

Grand Étang de Birieux is located near the village of Birieux. You can park in the village. Press P on the map for directions to a parking. From the village go in the direction of Saint Marcel en Dombes. After 400 m a path leads to the edge of the pond where there is an observatory. Note that the pond can be drained, it then reveals a vast mudflat.
