Description
Lake Aardla Reserve (also known as the Botanical-Ornithological Reserve of Lake Aardla) is a protected area of 132.5 hectares (99.5 hectares of land and 33 hectares of water). The reserve was formed in 1991 to protect the lake and its surroundings, where several protected species of birds live. In 2014, the Ropka-Ihaste Nature Reserve was established to further protect the area. Among the birds you can see in the area are Rață sunătoare, Corcodel cu gât roșu, Cocor, Nagâț, Bătăuș, Fluierar de mlaștină, Becațină comună, Boicuș, Chirighiță neagră, Buhai de baltă, Acvilă țipătoare mică, Șoimul rândunelelor and Erete de stuf.

Lake Aardla Reserve is directly south of the city of Tartu and easy to reach (about 5 km) from the city.
