Description

The Maribo Lakes consist of four lakes: Søndersø, Røgbølle Sø and Hejrede Sø southeast of Maribo town and the smaller Nørresø. The lakes are home to breeding Corcodel mare, Corcodel cu gât roșu and many species of ducks and geese, and the lakes have the country's largest population of Rață pestriță. Rață cu ciuf has been breeding at the lakes with a few pairs since 2003, the only place in Denmark.

Birds of prey also breed in the area. Codalb have had chicks every year since 2003, and Erete de stuf breeds in the reedbeds.
