Natural brackish wetland of 38 hectares 9 km north of Larnaca. Almost 200 bird species have been recorded here and 30 bird species breed around the lake.
Voroklini Lake (also called Oroklini Lake) is a protected Natura 2000 site of Paneuropean significance thanks to the biodiversity of the lake. Voroklini Lake is one of only seven natural wetlands in Cyprus. Despite its small size, it has a rich birdlife. The site is located about 9 km from the city of Larnaka town and south of the village of Voroklini. Several threatened bird species come to nest at the site: Piciorong, Nagâț sudic, Pasărea ogorului, Chiră mică, Chiră de baltă and Prundăraș de sărătură. During migration (in spring or autumn) or in winter many migratory birds and many species of ducks can be seen. A total of around 200 species have been recorded at the site. Voroklini Lake is also the only site in Cyprus where Rață cu ciuf nests. Other birds you can see in the wetland are Flamingo roz, Stârc de cireadă, Rață mică, Rață lingurar, Rață sulițar, Rață roșie, Rață cârâitoare, Corcodel mic, Bătăuș, Becațină comună, Fluierar de lac, Țigănuș and Erete de stuf. On the fields around the lake keep you eyes open for Francolin, Turturică africană, Potârniche de stâncă asiatică, Pasărea ogorului, Pietrar de Cipru and Ciocârlan.
From the observation platform at the information kiosk, north of the wetland, visitors have a full view of the wetland's north part, which is also the smallest. From the birdwatching hide south of the wetland visitors can see the largest part of Voroklini Lake which has higher salinity levels than the north part. Here one can see the nesting islets created for Nagâț sudic. Winter and Spring are the best times for such a visit.
