Description
Kopački Rit is one of the largest natural marshes in Europe. For this reason the area was included in the Ramsar List of protected wetlands. Almost 300 different species of birds have been recorded, including protected and very rare species such as Codalb and Barză neagră. Kopački Rit Nature Reserve is easily accessible by car from nearby Osijek, the capital of Slavonia. Along the way, the view will extend over the beautiful Pannonian landscapes full of marshes, forests and marshlands.

Access
The Kopački Rit park entrance with the information point can be reached from the village of Kopacevo, near Osijek. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates. The environment is subject to natural fluctuations in the water level. The best way to explore the wetland is by boat. The circular route indicated on the map is about 25 km. This road can be traveled along a dirt road on foot or by bicycle and for short distances by car.
I recommend contacting the park for information on the water level as it determines the length and types of boat excursions (see the link to the Kopački Rit website below). It is worth visiting the woods and meadows/pastures adjacent to the park. Note: massive presence of mosquitoes in hot periods.
