Hotspot of the Dyle valley wetlands chain. Two larger ponds surrounded by marshland, meadows, woodland and agricultural area. Good selection of wetland species.
The southern pond can be overlooked from a hide. In the breeding season, many reed and freshwater species can be encountered, such as Lăcar de stuf, Stufărică(all year), Pescăraș albastru (also at other ponds), Șoimul rândunelelor, and in some years more rare reed dwellers. Wintering ducks regularly include Rață fluierătoare. The northern pond is more open and holds populations of grebes, ducks and other freshwater species. Waders may occur during their migration period. It can be overlooked from a tower that is also suitable to scan the neighboring marsh- and grasslands. A walk through the area with scattered wood- and bushland will add a large variety of passerines to your list.
The area can be best exploited walking or by bicycle. There is a train station (Oud-Heverlee) nearby. Limited parking space available in Hazenfonteinstraat and Kerselarenlaan
