Description
Even the industrial/urban area in the north of this region harbours quite some good species in winter, like Rață fluierătoare, Rață pestriță, Rață moțată and Rață cu cap castaniu. They can be common near te sewage works, as do gulls Corcodel mic and Gâscă de vară.
In recent years Buhai de baltă has become almost annual (often more then one) and some years Pițigoi de stuf turns up. There's a big breeding population of Lăcar de stuf (>20 pairs) as do Stufărică and Presură de stuf in small numbers. In some years even Gușă vânătă breeds here.
The meadow areas further to the south, especially those along the railway hold most of the time waders in late winter and spring. Sitar de mal, Fluierar de mlaștină, Fluierar de zăvoi, Bătăuș, Prundăraș gulerat mic (breeds some years), Fugaci de țărm, Becațină comună, Becațină mică and others are seen annual. In winter this area often holds Fâsă de munte. In wet years species as Rață cârâitoare and Rață lingurar can be breeding here. Irregular breeders are Presură de stuf, Stufărică and Mărăcinar negru.
The area more to the south can hold Pescăraș albastru, Codobatură de munte, Mărăcinar negru and the same species mentioned earlier, but chances on these are more remote.
