Nature reserve and lagoon also known as Ishull Lezha. Important for migratory birds and a great place for birding.
The Kune Vain Tale nature reserve (also known as Ishull Lezha) is located within the Drin river delta and facing the Adriatic Sea in northern Albania. It has been identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International. The nature reserve is characterized by its lush vegetation and biodiversity. Almost 200 bird species have been recorded in the area.
The 45 km2 reserve was established in 2010 and includes Kune Island, Kune-Vain Lagoon, forests and diverse ecosystems. The area is located in a typical Mediterranean forest that is located against a lagoon and surrounding wetlands. The area is rich in water (salt and fresh) and has many reed beds and water levels and is therefore very suitable for water birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Pelican creț, Rață roșie, Rață cârâitoare, Flamingo roz, Piciorong, Cormoran mic, Fluierar cu picioare verzi, Prigorie, Ciocârlan, Pescăraș albastru and Erete de stuf.
The Rezervati Kune Vain Tale is located close to the city of Lezhë. From the city of Lezhë take the highway to Tirana and then immediately take the exit to Ishull Lezha. There are some good but rather remote hotels in this area that you can only reach by car.
You can take a day trip to the Kune Vain Tale nature reserve from Lezhë or from one of these hotels. At the main entrance you will see a lake, a lookout tower, a jetty with a wooden house, and an information building with a good map of the area. Press P on the map for directions to the main entrance. The walking route from the entrance to Kune Vain Tale park leads via an unpaved road through the lagoon to the beach, or to the nice Restaurant Trandafili Mistik and the little observation tower a bit further. From there you can return to the entrance. But you can also do the circular walk of approximately 15 km that is indicated on the map.
