This zoo has a large pond (Native Swamp and Rookery) where many wild birds nest during the breeding season.
Although the St. Augustine Alligator Farm is a zoo and theme park, there are excellent bird watching opportunities here. The Native Swamp and Rookery is a natural bird nesting area protected from disturbance by alligators. Observations are possible from very close up. However, the birds nest everywhere in the zoo, so you should pay attention to falling bird droppings. Among the birds you can observe are Roseate Spoonbill, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Green Heron, Wood Stork, Anhinga, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, White Ibis and Great Blue Heron.
St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is located east of Saint Augustine and only accessible by car. There is a large parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates. The walking tour is partly via boardwalks. Entrance fee $ 35 (2024). Opening hours: Daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Early entry and late exit available with Photo Membership and access to a "photographer only" observation hide ($ 150 annual pass).
