Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is the highest canal aqueduct in the world providing excellent views over the River Dee that flows 127 feet below. Pato-mandarim, Merganso-grande, Pato-real, Melro-d'água and other riparian species are expected. Whilst in the air around you corvids, raptors and hirundines fly playfully in the wind, e.g., Andorinhão-preto, Águia-d'asa-redonda, Gralha-calva.
In the trees alongside the canal by which you walk, finches, tits and thrushed are abundant (Chapim-preto, Felosa-comum, Tentilhão-comum, Carriça, etc.).

Acesso
Being a canal, it can be accessed by boat. It is well connected to the footpath network alongside the canals. There are mainline train stations at Chirk and Ruabon, where you can catch a bus to the Aqueduct. There are several car parks signposted off the A539 (click a P on the map for details).
