The island of Flat Holm has a significant breeding colony of over 4,000 pairs of gaivota-da-asa-escura, 400 pairs of Gaivota-argêntea, two pairs of Alcatraz-comum and varying numbers of Ostraceiro and Pato-branco. The south of the island is undermanaged and mainly used for the large population of gaivota-da-asa-escura, while the rest the island is managed to help the population of slow worms and other rare wildlife. The island has many cliff faces and beaches where the more scarcer birds can be found.

Scheduled 3 hour visits run from March to October. All trips depart from the Barrage South Water Bus Stop, situated in the Penarth Marina aboard the Lewis Alexander and the crossing takes about 50 minutes. Parking is availiable in the Barrage South Car Park and a parking ticket will be provided valid for the day of your visit when you book.
