At nearby Chesil Beach is a seasonal breeding colony of Andorinha-do-mar-anã, which is monitored and guarded by volunteers. Near to the visitor centre is a wetland that attracts waders and seabirds; there have been important national rarities found here, particularly during migration seasons - checkout the Portland Bird Observatory website for current information.
