The River Meden flows through the middle of the Budby Flash. Some parts are very shallow, making it attractive to dabbling ducks. The muddy shorelines at the western end attract the odd wader. Budby Flash is well watched and regularly turns up good birds. Among the birds that can be spotted are Milhafre-real, Pato-branco, Pato-trombeteiro, Frisada, Marrequinha-comum, Zarro-negrinha, Mergulhão-pequeno, Mergulhão-de-crista, Garça-branca-pequena, Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas and Guarda-rios-comum.
