Descrição
The Klingnauer reservoir is of international importance as an important habitat and resting place for water birds and waders. Birds of prey can also sometimes be observed in large numbers on the way to the winter quarters. Up to 220 bird species can be identified each year. A total of more than 310 different bird species have been identified so far. Around 100 of which have already breeded at the Klingnauer reservoir or the adjacent wetlands.
Pato-trombeteiro spend the winter at the Klingnauer reservoir in large numbers and also have the most important population of breeding pairs in Switzerland. The Eider-edredão, which is rare in Switzerland, can be found as a migrant or as a winter guest. Other types of duck such as the Zarro-negrinha or Marrequinha-comum overwinter here in large numbers, the graceful Arrabio in fewer numbers.
One of the highlights among the waders is the Maçarico-real. It used to breed in the lower Aare valley, now he can only be found as a winter guest or migrant. The same applies to the Abibe-comum: it does not breed on the reservoir, but can usually be observed all year round - like Narceja-comum. Other regular guests are Combatente, Perna-verde-comum and Pilrito-pequeno.
One of the typical types of floodplain forests is the Papa-figos. Guarda-rios-comum can be observed all year round, Pisco-de-peito-azul during migration.

Public transport: The visitor center (BirdLife-Naturzentrum Klingnauer Stausee, entrance fee CHF 7) can be reached in 20 minutes on foot from the Döttingen train station. To do this, cross the Aare bridge on foot in the direction of Kleindöttingen. Immediately after the bridge, turn right onto the Uferweg, where you can reach the visitor center after about 15 minutes. If you arrive by car there is parking in Kleindöttingen right in front of the bridge (see the map). You can make a circular walk around the lake (10,5 km, see the map). But if you have less time or don't want to walk this far, best focus on the southwestern side of the reservoir and walk from the parking to the bird watching tower near the visitor center. This is the most interesting part for birders.
