Sjötorpasjön is a good place to see wetland birds during much of the year. The surroundings (deciduous forests and farmland) are also interesting. Among the breeders are Mergulhão-de-crista, Cisne-vulgar, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis and in some years Abetouro-comum,Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo and Chapim-de-bigode. Other breeders in the neighbourhood are Milhafre-real , Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno, Chapim-rabilongo and Felosa-icterina. During migration periods large flocks of Ganso-comum , Ganso do Canadá , Pato-real and Marrequinha-comum stay at the lake, often including the odd duck or goose species.
From the birding tower you may see several raptors, especially Águia-d'asa-redonda, Búteo-calçado, Milhafre-real, Milhafre-preto, Águia-pesqueira and Águia-rabalva.
