The Norsholm area is quite vast and contains many minor sites shortly described here. The areas mentioned are marked with a star on the map. Press on a star and you can see the name of the area.
Grensholmsbron: Winter site with open waters even during harsh winters. Thousands of Zarro-negrinha (at most 2000), hundreds of Merganso-pequeno (only numerous during november and december), Pato-olho-d'ouro (at most 700), Pato-real (at most 600), and Merganso-grande (at most 600). Among more rarer wintering birds it is most known for wintering Águia-real, and Guarda-rios-comum. Other not yearly winter visitors are Cruza-bico-franjado, Pintarroxo-de-bico-grosso during invasions, and Mergulhão-pequeno, Frisada, Pintarroxo-de-bico-amarelo, Arrabio, Merganso-de-poupa, and Pintarroxo de Hornemann during birdrich winters.
Norsholms coastal meadows: Reed free coastal meadows which are rich in waders during late spring and autumn. Although only if the water level is right (only during high water). Few arctic waders are found but Pássaro-bique-bique, Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira, Perna-vermelha-escuro, Combatente, Perna-vermelha-comum, Narceja-comum, Galinhola, Maçarico-bastardo and Perna-verde-comum. Åby strandängar: Reed coated coastal meadows which are flooded during spring floods. They are then usually filled with early waders and ducks. Abetouro-comum can be heard singing. All common dabbling ducks are usually found except Marreco. Piadeira, Pato-real, and Frisada. On these coastal meadows Garça-branca-grande is often found.
Braskens grav: is an oxbow lake of the river Motala ström which often floods making it perfect for waders and ducks. Marrequinha-comum is numerous, Perna-vermelha-escuro, and other common tringa-waders are often found along with Narceja-galega. Garça-branca-grande is often found here. Galinha-d'água, and Galeirão-comum breed.
Åby gård: complex of 3 ponds, the large, the small and fiskaretorpet. It is these ponds and the field around them which Norsholm is most known for. It has a bird observation tower. During spring it holds large amounts of ducks and swans with Cisne-vulgar, Cisne-bravo, Pato-real, Piadeira, Frisada, Marrequinha-comum, Pato-trombeteiro, Zarro-negrinha, Merganso-pequeno, and Merganso-grande being common and Marreco and Arrabio, being rarer. Other common wetland birds are Galeirão-comum, Grou-comum, Garça-real. Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas often roost here. Rarer birds roosting are Mergulhão-pequeno, Galinha-d'água, Abetouro-comum (nearby reed areas), and Garça-branca-grande. There are small islands in the pond which hold a small tern and gull colony. Theese islands also hold small amounts of waders often; Maçarico-real, Perna-vermelha-comum, Abibe-comum, Combatente and Maçarico-bastardo. During early spring the area is great for roosting geese and swans with hundreds of Ganso-grande-de-testa-branca, Ganso-comum, Ganso-campestre, Ganso do Canadá, and Ganso-de-faces-brancas during good years. often along with smaller amounts of Cisne-pequeno (rare), Tundra Bean Goose, Ganso-de-bico-curto, and Ganso-de-faces-negras (rare).
Around these ponds Bufo-pequeno, Mergulhão-pequeno, Galinha-d'água, Cisne-bravo, Mergulhão-de-crista, Ganso do Canadá, Ganso-comum, Marrequinha-comum, Grou-comum, Abibe-comum, Narceja-comum, Galeirão-comum, Guincho-comum, Alcatraz-comum, Cisne-vulgar, Andorinha-do-mar-comum, Faisão, Zarro-negrinha, Pato-real, Pato-olho-d'ouro, and southern alvéola-amarela breed along with more common birds.
During autumn large amounts of ducks can rest (but less than during spring). The small islands grow during dry summers and can some years hold arctic waders like Pilrito-comum, Pilrito-de-bico-comprido, and Pilrito de Temminck. Pisco-de-peito-azul, and Escrevedeira da Lapónia can sometimes be found on the surrounding fields.
