Gravera de las Galletas is one of the rare wetlands for migratory waders on the southern slope of Tenerife. It has a peculiar location, right along the road, next to the beach. The area was formed as a result of extraction of gravel, becoming a set of small brackish ponds that maintained permanently. The water level has significant fluctuations, due both to the changing rhythm of the tides and to greater or lesser autumn rainfall. Among the birds you can encounter are Borrelho-grande-de-coleira, Maçarico-das-rochas, Garça-branca-pequena, Perna-verde-comum, Pilrito-comum, Rola-do-mar, Pilrito-de-bico-comprido, Picanço-grande and Alvéola-cinzenta. Also more rare waders on the Canary Islands like Seixoeira, Pernilongo, Tarambola-cinzenta, Pilrito de Temminck, Pássaro-bique-bique, Maçarico-bastardo and Perna-amarela-pequeno have been observed here.
