Descrição
Casas de Hitos is an area of ricefields where thousands of Grou-comum can be seen from October to early March. Also large numbers of Cegonha-branca and Pisco-de-peito-azul overwinter here. Huge concentrations of passage waders stop here for a few weeks every autumn and spring, including Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Combatente, Pilrito-pequeno, Pilrito de Temminck, Alfaiate, Pilrito-comumand Tarambola-dourada. Perdiz-do-mar and Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira breed here when the fields are dry. Rouxinol-bravo, Bengali-vermelho, Bico-de-lacre, Fuinha-dos-juncos and Felosa-poliglota are numerous. Abetarda-comum and Sisão can be seen here, but the tall vegetation makes it rather difficult, and Cortiçol-de-barriga-preta often give good views. Peneireiro-cinzento breed and feed in the area.
