Descrição
Part of the Topčiderski Park includes very old trees (some are several centuries old) and short-grass lawns. There is also a small patch of secondary forest in urban environment, a scenic lake, a canal with concrete banks. The holes in the old trees are used for nesting by Gralha-de-nuca-cinzenta, Estorninho-malhado, Pica-pau-verde, Trepadeira-azul, Pica-pau-mediano and other hole-nesting birds. There are also many Pombo-torcaz, Tentilhão-comum and other open-nest species. The park is characterized by temperature inversion, so it is always several degrees colder than in the surrounding hills. In winter Alvéola-cinzenta and smaller sandpipers appear at the banks of the canal. Many ducklings of Pato-real are seen in summer.
