Descrição
Koštunići Village is located on the Suvobor mountain slopes, where various habitats combine into a unique mosaic. Its official surface area ranks it as the 3rd largest village in Serbia. The village is also known for its two mountain streams, Grab ("Hornbeam") and Bukovača ("Beech"). Both streams spring up below the Suvobor mountain top, then part their ways through the mild southern slopes and finally join, forming the Čemernica ("Wormwood") River near the village center point.
Specialities of this area are Cia, Escrevedeira-de-garganta-preta, chapim-sombrio, Noitibó da Europa, and Melro-d'água. The rocky slopes found in the upper parts of the village are an ideal habitat for Cia. In the spring and early summer, the species prefers steeper slopes near the mountain streams, while in late summer and autumn, it moves to milder scrubby slopes near the hilltops. In winter, it is not uncommon for some of the population to completely move away from the area towards the lower lands and closer to towns. Escrevedeira-de-garganta-preta can be found throughout the village and throughout the season, usually from 50 to a couple of hundred meters around the houses, very rarely further away from the households. chapim-sombrio is a characteristic species for this region, usually found in old plum orchards, often mixed with other tits and in winter with finches as well. Noitibó da Europa can be found in the steppish and scrubby slopes near the edges of mixed woodland of pine and oak. Come to the location at sunset in late May or June, wait for 15 minutes, and listen for a metallic insect-like repetitive song with occasional and sudden changes of rhythm. Cautiously approach the source of the song and look for nightjars circling around. Melro-d'água is regular at the Grab stream, the bigger of the two mountain streams. Usually, it can be found at the dam marked on the map below, as well as at the stream around the dam.
From other species, you can also find:
- Cotovia-pequena, Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo, Escrevedeira-amarela, Trigueirão, Rola-comum (pastures, meadows, and grassy and scrubby hills)
- Gaio-comum, Trepadeira-azul, Trepadeira-comum, Tordeia, Pica-pau-malhado-grande, Pica-pau-verde, Pica-pau-cinzento, Pica-pau-preto (oak, pine, and beech forests)
- Águia-d'asa-redonda, Bútio-vespeiro, Gavião da Europa (long slopes with deep valleys in between)
- Alvéola-cinzenta (nesting along both Grab and Bukovača streams)
- Corvo, Pega-rabuda (arable lands)

Koštunići Village can be reached from many different sides. If you are coming from Belgrade and want the fastest route, take the "Miloš Veliki" highway to the Takovo intersection, then continue via Beršići and Brezna to Leušići. Here turn right and follow the narrow local road to Koštunići.
If you are coming from Belgrade and want the most scenic route (that is only 5 minutes slower than the fastest), also take the "Miloš Veliki" highway but depart at the Ljig intersection, pass through the Ljig town, then turn right to Kadina Luka, then again right to Ba village. Here the steep scenic ascent to Suvobor mountain begins. After the Suvobor mountain pass, continue stright via Brajići to Koštunići.

There is a small mountain resort "Eko Selo Koštunići" situated in the mountain river Čemernica valley in the southern, most accessible part of the village (marked on the map). Here you can dine delicious domestic food, or you can overnight as one day is probably not enough to properly visit all these different habitats.
