Penha Garcia is part of the region Tejo Internacional. An ideal place for birdwatching, enclosing beautiful landscapes and a great diversity of habitats, from the river valleys and well preserved Mediterranean scrubland and cliffs. In this mosaic of habitats a great diversity of species can be found. Over 210 species of vertebrates have been recorded at this region, of which 140 are birds.
Several of these species have a restricted distribution in Europe, being many of them confined to Iberia and some are threatened but are locally easy to observe. Birds you might see here are Águia-imperial-ibérica, Águia de Bonelli, Águia-calçada, Águia-cobreira, Black Vulture, Grifo-comum and Abutre do Egipto. Also , Melro-azul, , Chasco-ruivo, Felosa-do-mato and Pega-azul.

Park the car down by the lake (see the P on the map) and walk the 1,5 km trail up to the castle. Nice views, chance on many different birds soaring by.
