The Vreugderijkerwaard is a 97-hectare wetland with up to five-meter-high river dunes and a secondary channel flowing along the river IJssel. The wetland has reedbeds and mudflats. A large part of the year the area is a resting place for migratory birds, so you can see Abibe-comum, Combatente and Maçarico-de-bico-direito. In the winter, the area is often populated by thousands of Ganso-grande-de-testa-branca. Breeding birds in this nature reserve include the Codornizão, Andorinha-do-mar-comum and Alfaiate. The Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis finds his hunting ground in the reed land. Other birds you can see here are: Colhereiro, Piadeira, Tarambola-dourada, Cisne-pequeno, Ganso-de-faces-brancas, Pato-ferrugíneo, Pato-branco, Arrabio, Marrequinha-comum, Zarro-comum, Pato-olho-d'ouro, Zarro-bastardo, Merganso-grande, Merganso-pequeno, Mergulhão-pequeno, Ostraceiro, Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto, Borrelho-grande-de-coleira, Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira, Tundra Bean Goose, Ganso do Canadá.

Nederlands: De Vreugderijkerwaard is een moerasgebied van 97 hectare met tot vijf meter hoge rivierduinen en een nevengeul die langs de IJssel stroomt. Het moerasland heeft rietvelden en slikplaten. Een groot deel van het jaar is het gebied een rustplaats voor trekvogels, dus je kunt Abibe-comum, Combatente en Maçarico-de-bico-direito zien. In de winter wordt het gebied vaak bevolkt door duizenden Ganso-grande-de-testa-branca. Broedvogels in dit natuurgebied zijn onder meer de Codornizão, Andorinha-do-mar-comum en Alfaiate. Accessible by car and parking 500 meters from the bird hide at a restaurant. Best to explore on foot to reach the hide. The route you see on the map is about 5 km, but only possible if the water of the river is low.
