Ruygeborg is a nature reserve with open reed lands where you can observe different species of reed birds, such as Felosa-palustre, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Felosa-unicolor, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, rouxinol-dos-caniços and Felosa-dos-juncos. But also birds like Colhereiro, Garça-roxa, Frango-d'água, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis and Marreco. The water level changes per season. It is high in the winter and then the area is very wet. In the summer, the water level is low and the area can sometimes be completely dry.

Nederlands: Ruygeborg is een kleinschalig natuurgebied met open rietlanden aan de rand van de Nieuwkoopse Plassen. Dit gebied is aangelegd door Natuurmonumenten in 2012. Er zijn veel rietzangers te zien zoals Felosa-palustre, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Felosa-unicolor, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, rouxinol-dos-caniços en Felosa-dos-juncos. Maar ook vogels als Colhereiro, Garça-roxa, Frango-d'água, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis en Marreco. Het waterpeil wisselt per seizoen. Het staat hoog in de winter en dan is het gebied dus heel nat. In de zomer staat het waterpeil laag en kan het gebied soms helemaal droog staan.

Ruygeborg is located just behind the village of Nieuwkoop on the edge of the nature reserve Nieuwkoopse Plassen. The area has free entrance, dogs not allowed. Park at the Ruygeborg car park, Noordenseweg 23, Nieuwkoop. Click on the P in the map for directions. At the entrance of the area you will find restaurant Suikerhoeve. The circular walk indicated on the map is approximately 3 km.
