The southern part of the dutch province of Friesland is slightly hilly and has some nice forests to divert from the wide open lake IJsselmeer coast. Don't expect spectaculair birds in Rijster Bosch, but the combination with reedlands outside the dikes gives a different atmosphere to a day of birding. The Estate of Rijs has a lot of straight paths and lanes, but because of the hills it still feels spacious. When taking the routes from north to south the edge of the forest gives way at Murnserdyk to open views on the former Zuiderzee (lake IJsselmeer). Walking round the edge the open fields show geese, Abibe-comum and herons. In Rijster Bosch itself you can see birds like Estrelinha-de-poupa, Chapim-rabilongo, Águia-d'asa-redonda and Galinhola.

Nederlands: Voormalig landgoed dat bescherming biedt aan bosvogels en roofvogels. Leuk te combineren met andere vogelsites in de buurt. Het zuidelijke deel van Friesland is licht heuvelachtig en heeft een aantal mooie bossen die afwisseling bieden met de wijd open IJsselmeerkust. Verwacht in Rijster Bosch geen heel bijzondere vogelsoorten, maar de combinatie met buitendijkse rietlanden geeft een andere sfeer aan een dag vogels kijken. Landgoed Rijs heeft veel rechte paden en lanen, maar voelt door de heuvels toch ruim aan. Als je van noord naar zuid loopt wijkt de bosrand bij Murnserdyk voor vrij uitzicht op de voormalige Zuiderzee. Je loopt langs open velden met ganzen, Abibe-comum en reigers. In Rijster Bosch zelf zijn vogels te zien als Estrelinha-de-poupa, Chapim-rabilongo, Águia-d'asa-redonda en Galinhola.
