The management of the Kockengen Polder Reserve is aimed at obtaining a small-scale polder landscape. The grassland is mowed twice a year, after which the clippings are immediately removed. The coppice is stacked at the edges of the lots to create shelter and breeding opportunities. The reed plots purify the inlet water from the nearby Grote Heicop, so that the water that now surrounds the grassland plots is very nutrient-poor. All this acts as a magnet for various types of birds such as Gaivina-preta, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, rouxinol-dos-caniços and Garça-roxa.

Nederlands: Het beheer van Polderreservaat Kockengen is gericht op het verkrijgen van een kleinschalig polderlandschap zoals we dat rond 1900 kenden. Het grasland wordt twee keer per jaar gemaaid waarna het maaisel direct wordt afgevoerd. Het afgezette hakhout wordt aan de randen van de kavels gestapeld om er schuil- en broedgelegenheid te creeren. De rietpercelen zuiveren het ingelaten water van de nabij gelegen Grote Heicop waardoor het water dat nu de schraalgraslandkavels omringt zeer voedselarm is. Dit alles werkt als een magneet op diverse soorten vogels zoals de Gaivina-preta, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, rouxinol-dos-caniços en Garça-roxa. Het is een uitgelezen plek om de Gaivina-preta, die hier jaarlijks broedt, van dichtbij te zien.

From the direction of Breukelen you follow the provincial road N401 until Kockengen. There you turn left onto De Dreef. The polder reserve is located on the right-hand side. You can often already make beautiful observations from De Dreef. A little further is the parking lot of the Cemetery (see map). Here is also the walking access to the polder reserve.

Nederlands: Vanuit de richting Breukelen volg je de provinciale weg N401 tot aan Kockengen. Aldaar sla je links af De Dreef op. Het polderreservaat bevindt zich aan de rechter kant. Vanaf De Dreef kun je vaak al mooie waarnemingen doen. Iets verder bevindt zich het parkeerterrein van de Algemene Begraafplaats (zie kaart). Hier is ook de wandeltoegang tot het polderreservaat.
