The mussel beds in this part of the Wadden Sea are a good feeding ground for birds like Eider-edredão , Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto and, in winter, Mobêlha-pequena and/or Arau-comum . When you're lucky, you may find a Mergulhão-de-pescoço-castanho or a Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo between the numerous Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto , that gather here after the breeding season.

There is a parking lot along the IJsdijk and a maintenance road as well as a staircase going over the dike. Most of the birds can easily be seen from the dike. In winter, it may be interesting to search the outer rocks for Petinha-marítima and Escrevedeira-das-neves.

The Wadden Sea can be quite choppy, but the grebes can still be there. It may be worthwhile to take an extra good look.
