National Park De Meinweg is a unique terraced landscape on the border of the Netherlands and Germany. Three fractures divide De Meinweg National Park into four different terraces. Water rises to the surface at the base of the fractures. In addition to the terraces, De Meinweg consists of rolling heaths, streams, marshes and forests. The Paardengat route is a marked walk that leads across heaths, along the fens of Rolvennen and along the Paardengat. A circular walk that nicely shows the variation of De Meinweg National Park. Birds you may encounter along the way include Mergulhão-pequeno, Pica-pau-preto, Cartaxo-comum, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca, Cotovia-pequena, Petinha-das-árvores and Papa-amoras-comum.

Nederlands: Nationaal Park De Meinweg is een uniek terrassenlandschap met bossen, beken en heidevelden. Het ligt in het oostelijk deel van Midden-Limburg en wordt aan drie kanten omsloten door Duitsland. Drie breuken, waarvan de Peelrandbreuk de bekendste is, verdelen Nationaal Park De Meinweg in vier verschillende terrassen. Aan de voet van de breuken komt water naar de oppervlakte; hier liggen op verschillende plaatsen vennen. De Paardengatroute is een paaltjeswandeling uitgezet door Staatsbosbeheer die leidt over heidevelden, langs de Rolvennen en langs het Paardengat. Een rondwandeling die mooi de variatie van Nationaal Park De Meinweg laat zien. Vogels die je kunt tegenkomen onderweg zijn onder meer Mergulhão-pequeno, Pica-pau-preto, Cartaxo-comum, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca, Cotovia-pequena, Petinha-das-árvores and Papa-amoras-comum.

De Meinweg National Park is located east of the city of Roermond on the border of the Netherlands and Germany. The starting point is the parking lot at the railway crossing over the paved Meinweg, past camping Elfenmeer. Click on the P in the map for directions to the car park. This 5 km Paardengat walk is marked with blue posts.
