The Noordsvaarder is a vast area that encompasses the western tip of the island of Terschelling. A large part consists of a beach plain with some dunes here and there. The row of dunes bordering the North Sea is high and consists largely of drifting dunes. More inland, many dunes are covered with thickets and they alternate with wet dune valleys. On the south side you can also find an overgrown beach plain, this green beach turns into the Wadden Sea. Depending on the tide, the beach area is therefore larger or smaller. The best thing is to take a circular walk where you walk from West-Terschelling through the dunes to the North Sea. The first dune valley you walk along is managed as hay land. In addition to many special plants, Abibe-comum, Maçarico-de-bico-direito and Narceja-comum can be found here. The dunes with thickets are good for numerous singers, including Rouxinol-comum and Pisco-de-peito-azul, but Tartaranhão-azulado can also be seen here regularly.
The route to the beach also passes a dune lake with extensive reed borders. Here, besides ducks like Pato-trombeteiro, you have a chance of Chapim-de-bigode. Bird numbers are usually limited along the North Sea beach, but there is a chance of nice species, such as Escrevedeira-das-neves, while above the sea there is a chance of sea ducks and divers. In addition to birds, seals can also be seen regularly, both gray and harbor seals. However, the vast majority of birds are on the Wadden side. All kinds of waders can be found here. The adjacent green beach is a good place to see the Cotovia-cornuda in the winter months. NOTE: Especially at high tide, the area is used by birds as a resting place, keep your distance and do not disturb them! During the breeding season, a part is sometimes closed due to the present ground breeders, do not enter this area!

Nederlands: De Noordsvaarder is de westpunt van het eiland Terschelling. Je vindt er duinen, strand en wadden. Vooral de waddenkant is rijk aan vogels. De Noordsvaarder is een uitgestrekt gebied dat de westpunt van het eiland Terschelling omvat. Een groot deel bestaat uit een strandvlakte met hier en daar wat duintjes. Grenzend aan het Noordzee is de duinenrij hoog en bestaat die voor een groot deel uit nog stuivende duinen. Meer landinwaarts zijn veel duinen begroeid met struweel en worden ze afgewisseld met natte duinvalleien. Aan de zuidkant is ook een begroeide strandvlakte te vinden, dit groene strand gaat over in de Waddenzee. Afhankelijk van het getijde is de strandvlakte dus groter of kleiner. Het mooiste is om een rondwandeling te maken waarbij je vanaf West-Terschelling door de duinen naar de Noordzee loopt. De eerste duinvallei waar je langs loopt wordt beheerd als hooiland. Naast veel bijzondere planten zijn hier kievit, grutto en watersnip te vinden. De duinen met struweel zijn goed voor tal van zangers waaronder nachtegaal en blauwborst, maar ook blauwe kiekendief is hier regelmatig te zien.
De route naar het strand komt ook langs een duinmeer met uitgebreide rietkragen. Hier heb je naast eenden als slobeend, kans op baardmannetjes. Langs het Noordzeestrand zijn de vogelaantallen meestal beperkt, maar er is wel kans op leuke soorten, zoals sneeuwgors, terwijl er boven zee kans is op zee-eenden en duikers. Naast vogels zijn er ook regelmatig zeehonden te zien, zowel de grijze als de gewone zeehond. Verreweg de meeste vogels zitten echter aan de Waddenkant. Allerlei steltlopers zijn hier te vinden. Het aangrenzende groene strand is in de wintermaanden een goede plek om de strandleeuwerik te zien. LET OP: Vooral bij hoog water wordt het gebied door vogels gebruikt als rustplaats, houd afstand en verstoor ze niet! In het broedseizoen is soms een deel afgesloten vanwege de aanwezige grondbroeders, ga dit gebied niet in!

The area is within walking distance of the village of West-Terschelling. There is plenty of parking space at the harbour. The area itself is only accessible on foot. The route is about 10 km long.
