The nature reserves along the Nieuwe Zuiderlingedijk between Asperen and Spijk are especially worth visiting. Gaivina-preta breed in the area. Mergulhão-pequeno, Mergulhão-de-crista and Guarda-rios-comum breed here and there is a colony of Garça-real. The forests are rich in all kinds of songbirds under which Rouxinol-comum, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca, chapim-montês and sometimes Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno and even Rola-comum. Also, during migration time, check out the two water storage lakes with, among other things, many Zarro-comum and other duck species. The reed marshes are important for numerous reed and marsh birds such as Pisco-de-peito-azul, Rouxinol-bravo, Felosa-dos-juncos, Felosa-unicolor, Felosa-malhada, Frango-d'água, Garça-roxa and Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis. Corvo is also spotted. Recently, a large area of grasslands above the Nieuwe Zuiderlingedijk have been excavated for nature development. This is temporarily attractive to waterfowl.

Mergulhão-pequeno, Mergulhão-de-crista en Guarda-rios-comum broeden hier en er is een broedkolonie van Garça-real. De bossen zijn rijk aan allerlei soorten zangvogels waaronder Rouxinol-comum, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca, chapim-montês en soms Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno en zelfs Rola-comum. Bekijk tijdens de trek ook de twee waterbergingsmeren met onder meer veel Zarro-comum en andere eendensoorten. De rietmoerassen zijn belangrijk voor tal van riet- en moerasvogels zoals Pisco-de-peito-azul, Rouxinol-bravo, Felosa-dos-juncos, Felosa-unicolor, Felosa-malhada, Frango-d'água, Garça-roxa en Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis. Corvo wordt ook gezien. Recentelijk is boven de Nieuwe Zuiderlingedijk een groot stuk grasland afgegraven ten behoeve van natuurontwikkeling. Dit is tijdelijk aantrekkelijk voor watervogels.
