In the Meeuwenduinen, breeding birds include Guincho-comum, Felosa-malhada, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Rouxinol-comum, Cartaxo-comum and Pintarroxo-comum. Harriers can often be seen as well. But the Meeuwenduinen are most interesting during the autumn migration when many songbirds pass by. For example Laverca, Lugre, Escrevedeira-amarela, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca, Cruza-bico-comum, Cotovia-pequena, but also rarer species such as Escrevedeira da Lapónia and Felosa-bilistada. Large numbers of Tentilhão-comum, Tentilhão-montês and Petinha-dos-prados can be seen. The migratory birds are accompanied by raptors that prey on migratory birds, such as Açor, Gavião da Europa and Ógea. Please note: the Meeuwenduinen are closed to the public during the breeding season (March 15-Aug 1).

In de Meeuwenduinen broeden in het voorjaar onder andere Guincho-comum, Felosa-malhada, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Rouxinol-comum, Cartaxo-comum en Pintarroxo-comum. Vaak zijn er ook kiekendieven te zien. Maar de Meeuwenduinen zijn het meest interessant tijdens de najaarstrek als er veel zangvogels voorbij trekken. Bijvoorbeeld Laverca, Lugre, Escrevedeira-amarela, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca, Cruza-bico-comum, Cotovia-pequena, maar ook zeldzamere soorten als Escrevedeira da Lapónia en Felosa-bilistada. Ook zijn grote aantallen Tentilhão-comum, Tentilhão-montês en Petinha-dos-prados te zien. De trekvogels worden vergezeld door roofvogels die op trekvogels jagen, zoals Açor, Gavião da Europa en Ógea. Vlieland can be reached by ferry from Harlingen. Several boats leave per day and the crossing takes about an hour and a half (see link for ferry tickets below). The Meeuwenduinen are located on the west side of Vlieland. On Vlieland, no cars are allowed, so you have to get here by bike or island bus. The bus brings you right to restaurant Posthuys that is close to the Meeuwenduinen. The fastest way to catch a glimpse of the Meeuwenduinen is the path from restaurant Posthuys to the sea, which runs along the edge of the area. But the view is not optimal and it is less relaxed to watch birds. The best option is the dead end path to the animal cemetery that takes you in the middle of the Meeuwenduinen and is actually the only path that takes you into the area. It is about a 1.5 km walk from restaurant Posthuys to the animal cemetery (see the map). Please note: the Meeuwenduinen are closed to the public during the breeding season (March 15-Aug 1).

Nederlands: De Meeuwenduinen liggen aan de westkant van Vlieland. Op Vlieland zijn geen auto's toegestaan, dus je moet met de fiets of eilandbus naar deze westpunt van het eiland komen. De bus brengt je tot bij restaurant Posthuys dat vlakbij de Meeuwenduinen ligt. De snelste manier om een glimp van de Meeuwenduinen te zien is het pad van restaurant Posthuys naar zee, dat langs de rand van het gebied loopt. Maar het uitzicht is dan niet optimaal en het is wat minder relaxed vogels kijken. Beste optie is het doodlopende pad naar de dierenbegraafplaats dat je midden in de Meeuwenduinen brengt en eigenlijk ook het enige pad is dat door het gebied loopt. Vanaf restaurant Posthuys is het ongeveer 1,5 km lopen (zie de kaart). Het begin van het doodlopende pad kun je overigens ook prima met de fiets bereiken en dan alleen het laatste stuk lopen. Let op: de Meeuwenduinen zijn tijdens broedseizoen (15 maart-1 aug) afgesloten voor publiek.
