The Koelbroek area is a small forested wetland near the village of Boekend. It mostly contains deciduous forest with some wetland area within, some ditches and open agricultural grounds. The forest itself is a good place for typical forest species, like Trepadeira-azul, Trepadeira-comum and Dom-fafe. Woodpeckers, like Pica-pau-preto and Pica-pau-verde, are often found in the area, especially at the start of the track where a bunch of dead trees stand in the water. Near the edge of the forest and where wetland is still present, small reedbeds cover the area. Species like rouxinol-dos-caniços can be found here. Sometimes Frango-d'água can be heard too.
In the northern part of the area, a wider ditch is located in which Guarda-rios-comum is often present. Also Alvéola-cinzenta can be heard and seen here. Above the forest, predatory birds can be seen soaring over, like Águia-d'asa-redonda and Bútio-vespeiro. Gavião da Europa can be seen near the edges of the forest, hunting for prey.
On the agricultural fields on the southern side of the forest, Perdiz-cinzenta and Faisão can be found. Flocks of Pombo-bravo can be present in, mainly, the winter season. The end of the track leads through the northern part of the village. Some farms are excellent for local breeding birds, like Rabirruivo-preto and Mocho-galego.

Nederlands: Het Koelbroek is een klein bebost watergebied nabij het dorp Boekend. Het heeft voornamelijk loofbos met wat waterrijk gebied binnenin, enkele sloten en open landbouwgronden. Het bos zelf is een goede plek voor typische bossoorten, zoals Trepadeira-azul, Trepadeira-comum en Dom-fafe. Spechten, zoals Pica-pau-preto en Pica-pau-verde, zijn vaak te vinden, vooral aan het begin van het pad waar een stel dode bomen in het water staan. Aan de rand van het bos en waar wetland aanwezig is, vind je kleine rietvelden. Soorten zoals rouxinol-dos-caniços zijn hier te vinden. Soms is de Frango-d'água ook te horen.
In het noordelijke deel van het gebied bevindt zich een bredere sloot waarin vaak Guarda-rios-comum te vinden is. Ook Alvéola-cinzenta is hier te horen en te zien. Boven het bos zie je roofvogels overvliegen, zoals Águia-d'asa-redonda en Bútio-vespeiro. Gavião da Europa kan worden gezien aan de randen van het bos, op jacht naar prooi.
Op de akkers aan de zuidkant van het bos zijn Perdiz-cinzenta en Faisão te vinden. Koppels Pombo-bravo kunnen vooral in het winterseizoen aanwezig zijn. Het einde van het pad loopt door het noordelijke deel van het dorp. Sommige boerderijen zijn uitstekend geschikt voor vogels als Rabirruivo-preto en Mocho-galego.

The area is easy accessible on foot. You can park your car at the beginning of the track on the western part of the forest and walk a circular route of about 2,5 km. The first part of the track is unpaved, but mostly dry. From about half the track the road changes to tarmac.

Nederlands: Het gebied is gemakkelijk te voet te verkennen. Je kunt parkeren aan het begin van het pad in het westelijke deel van het bos en een rondwandeling van ongeveer 2,5 km lopen. Het eerste deel van de route is onverhard, maar grotendeels droog. Vanaf ongeveer de helft van de route is de weg verhard.
