The Kievitsveld consists of ponds, beaches, some former fishing ponds and small forest complexes. The several ponds (Smallertse plas and Nijmolense plas) were created by sand extraction. The sand was used for the construction of the A50 highway between Apeldoorn and Heerde. The Smallertse plas was set up for day recreation with the construction of 2 beaches. South of the Nijmolense plas are some water features that were formerly used as fish ponds. A beautiful natural environment has been created here. This area is nice for birding and to walk around.

Nederlands: Het Kievitsveld bestaat uit plassen, stranden, enkele voormalige visvijvers en kleine stukken bos. De verschillende plassen (Smallertse plas en Nijmolense plas) zijn ontstaan door zandwinning. Het zand is gebruikt voor de aanleg van de A50 tussen Apeldoorn en Heerde. De Smallertse plas is ingericht voor dagrecreatie met de aanleg van 2 stranden. Ten zuiden van de Nijmolense plas liggen enkele waterpartijen die vroeger als visvijvers werden gebruikt. Hier is een prachtige natuur ontstaan. Dit gebied is leuk om vogels te kijken en om rond te wandelen.
