De Katerstede (an area of 32 hectare and 1.7 km long) is located in the floodplains of the river IJssel near the village of Welsum. Open water with dense vegetation. It is a typical riverlandscape on the west side of the river IJssel, one of the most beautiful rivers in the Netherlands. In times of high waterlevel it can be very wet. The area is home to typical songbirds and forest birds. Including Açor, Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno, Papa-figos, Bico-grossudo, Cuco-canoro, Felosa-malhada, Papa-moscas-cinzento, chapim-montês, Papa-amoras-comum and Felosa-das-figueiras. And many water birds in winter.
