Halkenbroek is a lake with reed beds, located in a forest. There is a large viewing screen to see the birds. Among the birds you can spot here are Frisada, Marrequinha-comum, Mergulhão-pequeno, Pica-pau-verde, Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo, Picanço-grande, Cuco-canoro and Pisco-de-peito-azul.

Nederlands: Halkenbroek is een mooie plas, omzoomd door riet en gelegen in een bos. Er is een groot kijkscherm om de vogels te zien. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt zien zijn Frisada, Marrequinha-comum, Mergulhão-pequeno, Pica-pau-verde, Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo, Picanço-grande, Cuco-canoro en Pisco-de-peito-azul.

The viewing screen is located on a bicycle path, which is also easy to reach on foot. You can walk or cycle all the way around the area (about 5 km) and pass the Halkenbroek lookout tower. Are you coming by car? Then park it at the T-junction Halkenbroeken-Soartendijk in Grolloo.
Please note: Current situation May 2025. Unfortunately you can no longer walk the circuit, the road to the lookout tower is permanently closed due to beaver passages that undermine the road.

Nederlands: Het kijkscherm ligt aan een fietspad, ook te voet gemakkelijk te bereiken. Je kunt helemaal om het gebied lopen of fietsen (ongeveer 5 km) en passeert dan ook de uitkijktoren Halkenbroek. Kom je met de auto? Parkeer deze dan bij T-splitsing Halkenbroeken-Soartendijk in Grolloo.
Let op: Actuele situatie Mei 2025. Helaas kun je het rondje niet meer lopen, de weg naar de uitkijktoren is permanent gesloten i.vm. bevergangen onder de weg door.
