De Wilck covers more than 120 hectares. A wide landscape with many ditches: the Wilck is pre-eminently a piece of peat meadow area. It owes its name to the small river of the same name that used to flow here. The damp and wet grasslands attract large numbers of meadow birds and in winter geese, ducks and Cisne-pequeno. The openness of the landscape makes the area vulnerable, it is therefore only accessible via a path along the northern edge. It is a popular breeding area for meadow birds like Maçarico-de-bico-direito , Perna-vermelha-comum , Ostraceiro , Abibe-comum and other small waders. Often one can also find a Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis here.

Nederlands: De Wilck is ruim 120 ha groot. Een weids landschap met veel sloten: de Wilck is bij uitstek een stukje veenweidegebied. Het dankt zijn naam aan het riviertje met dezelfde naam, dat hier vroeger stroomde. De vochtige en natte graslanden trekken in de zomer vele weidevogels aan en in de winter veel watervogels en kleine zwanen. De openheid van het landschap maakt het gebied kwetsbaar, het is daarom alleen toegankelijk via een pad langs de noordrand.

The area is accessible by car, but there is no designated parking place. It's easier to visit by bike. For lovers of walks we have indicated on the map a nice long winter walk (18 km) through the peat meadow area in the vicinity of the Wilck.

Nederlands: Het gebied is bereikbaar met de auto, maar er is geen aangewezen parkeerplaats. Het verdient de voorkeur om het gebied met de fiets te bezoeken. Voor de liefhebbers van wandelingen hebben we op de kaart een mooie lange winterwandeling (18 km) door het veenweidegebied aangegeven in de omgeving van de Wilck.
