The largest forest on the island of Texel is called 'De Dennen'. Once (1899) created as a 'mining forest', it is now a beautiful and varied mixed forest.

The wind often blows on Texel and the forest is a pleasant place to catch your breath. In addition to 'ordinary' forest birds such as Gaio-comum , Pica-pau-malhado-grande , Estrelinha-de-poupa and Tentilhão-comum, the Dennen also offer a breeding ground for Galinhola , Cruza-bico-comum and pintarroxo-pequeno and you can regularly find Cruza-bico-papagaio , Dom-fafe or Chapim-preto in winter.

Nederlands: Het grootste bos op Texel heet 'De Dennen'. Ooit (1899) aangelegd als 'mijnbos' is het nu een prachtig en afwisselend gemengd bos. Op Texel waait het vaak en juist dan is het bos een aangename plek om even op adem te komen. Naast 'gewone' bosvogels als Gaio-comum , Pica-pau-malhado-grande , Estrelinha-de-poupa en Tentilhão-comum bieden de Dennen ook een broedplaats aan Galinhola , Cruza-bico-comum en pintarroxo-pequeno en kun je er in de winter regelmatig Cruza-bico-papagaio , Dom-fafe of Chapim-preto vinden.

There are several entrances to the forest and you can explore it both on foot and by bicycle. You can even drive through it by car (max. 30!) to stop where you hear something interesting singing or shouting. The circular route indicated on the map is about 4,5 km.

Nederlands: Er zijn diverse ingangen voor het bos en je kunt het zowel te voet als met de fiets uitstekend verkennen. Zelfs kun je er met de auto (max. 30!) doorheen rijden om zo te stoppen waar je iets interessants hoort zingen of roepen. De route die is aangeven op de kaart is ongeveer 4,5 km.

The entire forest covers more than 500 hectares. So it really takes you a while to explore it on foot.
