Azewijnse Broek

The sand extraction area "Azewijnse Broek" consists of several sand extraction ponds with banks and surrounding terrains. The oldest part is a truly beautiful nature area with ponds, groves, islets, rugs and steep banks. Large parts of the area are surrounded by hedgerows, grasslands, ditches and bushes. Artificial islands have been built in the ponds to offer theAndorinha-do-mar-comum a suitable breeding ground. However, the area is still in full development so that flora and fauna (reed / marsh banks, sandy soils) will always have new opportunities in the future.

Birds that we can find in the breeding season are: Trepadeira-comum, Felosa-palustre, papa-amoras-cinzento, Ganso-de-faces-brancas,Faisão,Mergulhão-de-crista,Gaio-comum,alvéola-amarela,Papa-amoras-comum,Ganso-comum,Papa-moscas-cinzento,Pica-pau-malhado-grande,Ganso do Canadá,Tordeia,Ferreirinha-comum, Pombo-bravo,Pombo-torcaz,rouxinol-dos-caniços,Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira,Pintarroxo-comum, Cuco-canoro,chapim-real,Galeirão-comum,melro, Chapim-azul,Pintassilgo, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, Pardal-montez,Felosa-icterina, Estorninho-malhado, Felosa-comum,Felosa-das-figueiras, Perna-vermelha-comum, Rola-turca, Laverca, Tentilhão-comum,Carriça, alvéola-branca, Tordo-comum, Rola-comum,Gralha-preta, Rabirruivo-preto, Toutinegra-de-barrette-preto, Tordeia, Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira, Andorinha-do-mar-comum

Ducks (presumably nesting outside the area): Pato-real, Pato-branco, Pato-ferrugíneo, Zarro-comum, Frisada, Zarro-negrinha. Special species during the spring migration and autumn migration :Maçarico-das-rochas,Pássaro-bique-bique and Combatente use the area as well as:Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Abibe-comum, Ostraceiro,Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira, Andorinha-do-mar-comum who occasionally breed in the area. We also see Águia-pesqueira and Cegonha-branca in the area.

Dutch: In de gemeente Oude IJsselstreek tussen de dorpen Azewijn, Netterden, Gendringen en Lengel ligt het zandwingebied "Azewijnse Broek". Het bestaat uit meerdere zandwinplassen met oevers en omliggende terreinen. Het grootste gedeelte van de plassen waar geen zand of grind meer gewonnen wordt is grotendeels ingericht en er is in het oudste gedeelte een werkelijk prachtig natuurgebied ontstaan met : poelen, bosjes, eilandjes, ruigten en steile oevers voor eisvogel en oeverzwaluwen. Grote delen van het gebied zijn omgeven door miedoornhagen, graslanden, sloten en bosjes. In de plassen zijn ook reeds kunstmatige eilandjes aangelegd om de visdieven een geschikte broedplek aan te bieden.

Het gebied is echter ook nog steeds volop in ontwikkeling zodat flora en fauna (riet/moerasoevers, zandgronden ook toekomstig steeds nieuwe kansen zullen krijgen.

Eenden (broeden vermoedelijk buiten het gebied) : Pato-real,Pato-branco,Pato-ferrugíneo,Zarro-comum,Frisada,Zarro-negrinha.

Roofvogels komen voor in het gebied maar broeden elders mogelijk door het gebrek aan geschikte mogelijkheden : Águia-d'asa-redonda,peneireiro-de-dorso-malhado / peneireiro,Gavião da Europa,Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis,Tartaranhão-azulado,Ógea,falcão-peregrino.

Bijzondere soorten tijdens de voorjaarstrek en najaarstrek : Steltlopers als : Maçarico-das-rochas,Pássaro-bique-bique en Combatente maken gebruik van het gebied evenals : Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Abibe-comum, Ostraceiro,Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira, Andorinha-do-mar-comum die incidenteel broeden in het gebied. Ook de Águia-pesqueira en Cegonha-branca zien we in het gebied.

You can easily get there by car and there is ample parking space. The area is ideal for exploring on foot. The total walking trail as shown on the map is about 6 km.

Dutch: Je kunt er met de auto gemakkelijk komen en er is voldoende parkeergelegenheid. Het gebied is uitermate geschikt om wandelend te onderzoeken. De ingetekende route op de kaart is ongeveer 6 km.
