Descrição
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis but also Tartaranhão-de-peito-branco (early-mid spring) and Tartaranhão-caçador (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for Peneireiro-das-torres and Falcão-de-pés-vermelhos (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, Abelharuco-comum and Rolieiro-comum. calhandrinha arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including Andorinha-dáurica, and pipits, including Petinha-de-garganta-ruiva. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see Tarambola-dourada and Abibe-comum. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
