The ecological importance of Lake Ohrid has been acknowledged by the declaration of Lake Ohrid as UNESCO world heritage site in 1980. The high diversity of avifauna especially among the migratory birds. The reedbeds are packed with Rouxinol-grande-dos-caniços and Garça-pequena is also quite common, on the lakeCorvo-marinho-pigmeu, Chapim-de-faces-pretas, Rouxinol-comum, Thickbilled Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, Black-headed Wagtails etc. are easy to see. In the trees surrounding the farmland there are Picanço-pequeno and lots of Papa-figos. The forests on the hills again numerous Papa-figos, Poupa, woodpeckers, Toutinegra-carrasqueira and Papa-moscas-de-colar to name a few.

Lake Ohrid is located on the border of Albania and Macedonia near the towns of Struga and Ohrid. Best to explore the area on foot.
