Descrição
Ikweta Safari Camp is located just outside Murera Gate in Meru National Park and has planted, continues to plant and to maintain hundreds of indigenous and other species of flowering and non-flowering plants, shrubs, and trees to green and beautify its natural environment, and to create shade and a cool micro-climate in an otherwise semi-arid area.
This means that you can find many birds on the walking trails in its own gardens. Birds such as African Black-headed Oriole , Speckled Mousebird, African Green-Pigeon , Red-billed Firefinch, Lesser Masked-Weaver and Red-billed Quelea.
They also organise a guided walk to the nearest kopje which takes you through cultivated fields, a small wood and over a little stream, and so is very rewarding. Here you might spot Namaqua Dove , Red-billed Firefinch , Grey-headed Kingfisher , Black-shouldered Kite , Tawny-flanked Prinia , White-browed Sparrow-Weaver , Banded Snake-Eagle and Abdim's Stork .
This area is also rich in finding migratory birds such as the European Roller , Short-toed Snake Eagle and Barn Swallow .
And the view from the top of the kopje is magnificent and well worth the climb.
