Oasi WWF Lago di Alviano includes typical environments of freshwater wetlands: ponds, marshes, wet forest, among the largest in central Italy with its 900 hectares. You can take a beautiful walk of about 1.5 kilometers, past 7 different bird hides and 2 lookout towers. Some huts are equipped for photography, for example 2 forest hides where you can observe birds like Chapim-palustre, Chapim-azul, chapim-real, Chapim-rabilongo, Pica-pau-malhado-grande, Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno, Pica-pau-verde, Trepadeira-azul and more. At the hides along the water you can see different heron species, duck species and waders such as Garça-branca-grande, Garça-real, Garça-roxa, Abetouro-comum, Papa-ratos, Colhereiro, Narceja-comum, Mergulhão-pequeno and Frango-d'água but also Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis. You can also encounter Fox, Wild Boar, Coypu, Porcupine, Marten and 4 different types of snakes here. In short, a beautiful area to visit. Italiano: L’Oasi WWF del lago di Alviano, comprende tutti gli ambienti tipici delle zone umide ad acqua dolce: palude, stagno, acquitrini, marcita, bosco igrofilo, tra i più estesi dell’Italia centrale e custodisce ambienti acquatici scomparsi da oltre un secolo. Proprio per questo motivo ha un valore speciale, perché con i suoi 900 ettari protegge dalla caccia e dalla speculazione edilizia questo scrigno di biodiversità unico.

You can park at bar Oasi. Click on the P in the map for directions. From there you walk a bit further, to the reception and the entrance. The Oasis is open on Sundays and Holidays from 10:00 to one hour before sunset. Entrance fee is € 6. For visits outside these days and times call 333/7576283, then you can pick up a key from the park to gain access.

L’Oasi è aperta la Domenica e i Festivi dalle 10:00 a un’ora prima del tramonto dal 1° Settembre al 30 Giugno. Biglietti adulti € 6. There are two trails that run through the Oasi, marked with explanatory panels and several observation hides for birdwatching. Both are at the north end of the lake, at Madonna del Porto. The first one (Sentiero Natura) is a 1,5 km circular footpath also practicable for disabled. 6 hides and a tower allow visitors to watch birds without disturbing them. At the Aula Verde (two level hide) there is a telescope. The second path (Vecchio Sentiero) has been left as natural as possible, 2,5 kms than run into the riparian woodland beside the Tiber river. Practicable with some difficulties on winter due to the rain and the nearness of the river, gumboots can be useful! It is possible to join the two paths and take a tour of about 7 km.

Italiano: L’Oasi è ben attrezzata con capanni per il birdwatching e per la fotografia naturalistica, di una torretta e perfino di un’aula all’aperto, proprio in mezzo alla palude, per un totale di 11 strutture. Due i sentieri immersi nella natura. Il primo (Sentiero natura principale) lungo 1,5 km ad anello, costeggia in parte la palude, si affaccia su dei prati allagati per poi addentrarsi nel bosco igrofilo ed è interamente percorribile dai diversamente abili. Il secondo, “Sentiero Vecchio”, è lungo 3,5 km, si snoda lungo il corso del fiume Tevere all’interno di uno splendido bosco igrofilo e consente un approccio più selvaggio alla riserva. E’ possibile unire i due sentieri e percorrere un giro di circa 7 km.
