Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are Marreco, Marrequinha-comum, Zarro-castanho, Mergulhão-pequeno, Rola-comum, Cuco-canoro, Grou-comum, Pernilongo, Perna-verde-comum, Maçarico-bastardo, Abetouro-comum, Garça-pequena, Garça-roxa, Papa-ratos, Socó-taquari, Íbis-preta, Colhereiro, Bútio-vespeiro, Águia-cobreira, Águia-real, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, Milhafre-real, Milhafre-preto, Mocho-d'orelhas, Poupa, Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo, Gralha-de-bico-vermelho and Corvo.

Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
