Descrição
Dun Laoghaire Harbour is a leisure marina and commerical harbour in south Dublin with two long piers. Along with nearby Scotsmans Bay, it offers long walks and chances to see a variety of gulls, terns and waders all year round. It is one of the best places to see Gaivota-de-cabeça-preta and Pilrito-escuro in Dublin. The two piers offer multiple viewing points for coastal species within the harbour and beyond in South Dublin Bay.
Mobêlha-grande and Mobêlha-pequena are frequently seen in winter and it is possible to photograph them at close range when they venture into the harbour itself. Mobêlha-árctica can also be seen here occasionally. Mergulhão-de-crista, Pato-preto and Merganso-de-poupa can be ecountered beyond the harbour, particularly from the west pier. The east pier is better known for its waders including Pilrito-escuro, Rola-do-mar and Borrelho-grande-de-coleira.
Terns can be seen here in the summer and there are also breeding Arau-d'asa-branca within the harbour. Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo and flocks of Gaivota-pequena have been observed here in recent years and is also a reliable spot for Rabirruivo-preto in winter. Scotsmans Bay is also worth walking along towards Forty Foot for gulls and terns, particulalry for occasional large numbers of Gaivota-de-cabeça-preta.
