Birding at Ljóskastarahúsið is usually rewarding in one way or another. During migration, thousands of seabirds, like Gaivota-tridáctila, Arau-comum, Torda-mergulheira, Fulmar-glacial and Papagaio-do-mar pass the westernmost point on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula. In summer, birds like Ganso-patola and Fulmar-glacial can be seen feeding, and if you're lucky, a Pardela-sombria or a Pardela-preta might pass. In the wintertime, the sea hosts Pato-de-cauda-afilada, Corvo-marinho-de-crista and you might be able to find a Torda-anã.
Visit Ljóskastarahúsið when the wind is strong, preferably towards land and the Reykjavík bay. Not many Icelandic birders spend time seawatching, so chances are high that you'll be the one yelling "albatross!". Remember to check the ponds and shoreline on your way to and from.

Get to Ljóskastarahúsið by parking in the parking lot by Bakkatjörn. Press P on the map for directions. From there follow the path trailing the golf course. Dont worry about the golfers, the path is a frequently used trail for people walking, running and biking in the area. There are bus stops close to the residential area. The circular walking route around the peninsula shown on the map is about 2 km.
