Descrição
Need a place to relax with a book, a new place to visit for a picnic, and happen to be interested in birds? Grasagarður (Reykjavík Botanical Garden) provides a leisurely location for birding year-round. While most exciting during migration, Grasagarður has a decent amount of birdlife throughout the seasons. The variety of habitats provides food, shelter, and other conditions for a handful of birds, for instance Tordo-ruivo-comum, Estorninho-malhado, and Carriça. Feeders outside of the visitor center attract birds such as Pintarroxo-de-queixo-preto and melro, especially in winter. The botanical garden has hosted a fair share of rare vagrants throughout the years, and the ponds can provide a safe haven for ducks and waders during heavy storms. The garden’s main role is to conserve plants for education, research and delight. It conserves some 3000 plant species in eight plant collections. The collections give an idea of the enormous diversity of vegetation in the northern temperate zone.
