Alykes is named after the Greek name for salt flats. Nowadays it’s one of the most popular resorts on the island of Zakynthos. Until the late 1970s salt was produced in the Alykes Salt Pans. But today the area is a beautiful nature reserve. Among the birds you can encounter are Pernilongo, Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira, Garça-branca-pequena, Papa-ratos, Maçarico-das-rochas, Fuinha-dos-juncos, Rouxinol-grande-dos-caniços and alvéola-amarela.
