The nature reserve Werbeliner See including it's surrounding area is one of the prime spots for birdwatching in Northern Saxony. At the eastern shore, you have a good view onto the lake, especially until noon. Species you can find here include Abibe-comum , Tarambola-cinzenta , Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas , Mergulhão-de-crista , Pilrito-comum and more.
The fields nearby also offer a variety of birds such as Pintassilgo , pintarroxo-pequeno , Rouxinol-comum , Felosa-comum , Escrevedeira-amarela , Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo , Picanço-grande and many more.
During winter, this is hotspot for overwintering water birds. Here, you can find bird species such as Pato-fusco , Pato-preto , impressive groups of hundreds of Galeirão-comum that flock together as soon as the Águia-rabalva flies over, and a lot more.

The Werbeliner See is located 20 km north of Leipzig. It is best to come by car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. You can also take the train to Zschortau or Delitzsch and take a bike from there. The nature reserve Werbeliner See is best explored by foot or bike.

This is a nature reserve and strictly speaking, some of the paths are forbidden to enter (which a lot of locals do anyway, especially with their dogs).
The nature reserve offers a variety of tours and events, which are all highly recommended. They have a fantastic team of rangers.
This is a former mining area which can be nicely observed by the long islands by the overburden ("Abraum"). This sandbank islands make this lake particularly interesting for plenty of bird species.
