Vogelfreistätte Mittlere Isarstauseen is one of the most valuable water bird sanctuaries in Bavaria. It has mixed habitats supporting a variety of species. The almost six square kilometers nature reserve has a high nature conservation significance. The water bodies are not used for recreational purposes and hunting is prohibited in the entire protected area. Among the birds you can see are Guarda-rios-comum, Frango-d'água, Mergulhão-pequeno, Pato-real, Zarro-negrinha, Zarro-comum, Pato-de-bico-vermelho, Merganso-de-poupa, Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas, Garça-real, Garça-branca-grande, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis and Gavião da Europa.
